EAST WINDSOR VETERANS COMMISSION
MINUTES
Thursday, February 2, 2006
OPENING:
Warren Wenz, Chairman, opened this meeting at 7:00 P.M. at the Broad Brook Senior Center. There were eight commission members in attendance: Warren Wenz, Ron Hwalek, Dave Malo, James Barton, Ernie Teixeira, William Abbe Sr., Ken Crouch, and Mark Simmons. Don Brown and J.R. Russo of J.R. Russo Associates were also present as guests.
Absent: Fred McDermott, Rick Webster, John Lichatz, George Butenkoff and Linda Roberts
Chairman Warren Wenz led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: The recorded minutes of the January 5, 2006, meeting was reviewed by those present.
MOTION: Ken Crouch moved to accept the meeting’s minutes as submitted. This was seconded by Ron Hwalek and carried unanimously.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Ron Hwalek submitted a treasurer’s report for all present to review. Ron responded to several questions and comments made by those present.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Committee-
No report
Memorial Day Poster/Essay Contest Committee-
Warren Wenz asked for ideas on changing the wording of the theme of our poster/essay contest. Several ideas were mentioned. A suggestion was also made to open the contest up to the general public offering cash awards or gift cards for this new category.
Scholarship Committee-
No report
Veterans Cemetery Project-
With J.R. Russo’s helpful assistance, the commission reviewed his revised cemetery plans in detail and made suggestions. A suitable cemetery driveway was agreed to be a priority.
MOTION: Ron Hwalek moved to implement the driveway illustration portion of the cemetery plan as presented as a “Phase I” part of the overall cemetery design. This was
seconded by Ernie Teixeira and carried unanimously.
Veterans Day Road Race Committee-
Jim Barton brought in a sample long sleeve T-Shirt from the Manchester Road Race for all to view. The members agreed to research pricing and continue this discussion at our March meeting.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Ken Crouch presented a sample framed certificate of thanks to be given to the volunteers who helped out at our road race.

ADJOURNMENT
Hearing of no further business to come before the commission, Chairman Warren Wenz asked for a motion to adjourn. Ron Hwalek moved to adjourn this meeting and a second was made by Ernie Teixeira. The motion carried unanimously. The Chairman closed the meeting at 7:44 P.M.
